Hans van Zanten

Hans has lived most of his life in the Kansas City area. He attended Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, Missouri and then attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Hans graduated Marquette with a B.A. in Philosophy & Psychology and competed in cross-country and track for four years. After Marquette, Hans returned to Kansas City to go to law school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City.

During law school, Hans worked as a law clerk at a small general practice firm, where he was exposed to many different areas of law, including catastrophic injury and wrongful death litigation. Before entering private practice, he worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Ann Mesle at the Jackson County Circuit Court. Thereafter, he began practicing for several years at two regional civil litigation defense firms where he was involved in every facet of litigation, from commencement of claims through the appeal process.

Hans ultimately chose to represent plaintiffs victimized by negligence, and spent seven years at two prominent plaintiff's firms in the Kansas City area. Hans handled all types of injury, death and insurance coverage claims, including motor vehicle collisions, trucking accidents, motorcycle accidents, shootings, electrocutions, construction accidents, premises liability, medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, architectural malpractice and product liability claims. Hans also successfully litigated insurance coverage disputes, particularly issues related to offset and anti-stacking in UM/UIM claims. Within this time frame, Hans spent two years litigating mass torts related to defective pharmaceuticals and medical devices on a national level. This included conducting key expert depositions and discovery beneficial to numerous cases within the federal Multi-District Litigation setting.

Driven by his desire to represent and protect those harmed by negligence, Hans co-founded his firm with Thomas Onik. Hans and Thomas share the same vision in representing clients with respect, compassion and working hard to achieve a positive result. Hans is a proud member of the Board of Governors of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys. Hans has been recognized as Best of the Bar by the Kansas City Business Journal. He has also been selected to Missouri/Kansas Super Lawyers - Rising Star (2010-2013) and has been selected to Missouri/Kansas Super Lawyers from 2014 to present.

Hans is married with three children.

When he is not working, Hans enjoys spending time with his family and trying to stay fit.
